Peelable vinyl leaves its paper backing behind. The backing has to be soaked and scraped, then the paste washed off, then the wall dried for two or three days before anything goes on it.
Traditional paper on bare drywall — common in 1970s–90s Utah homes — is bonded to the drywall's own paper face. Pull too hard and the wall comes with it. This is where a removal-only service leaves you with a repair bill; we just fix it.
Painted-over wallpaper is the slowest of all, because the paint seals the paste. Steam, patience, and usually a skim coat afterward.
