15 minutesYes, with prep. Orange-peel is a fine texture that a single skim coat usually flattens; we sand, prime and then hang. If you prefer to skip skimming, a heavier textured vinyl or grasscloth can mask light orange-peel, but smooth walls give the best result for most patterns.
Scrubbable vinyl or vinyl-coated non-woven papers are the right choice near cooking and eating areas because splatters wipe off without staining. We keep paper off the direct backsplash zone behind the range and use a clear sealant edge where paper meets counters or tile.
