Roy grew explosively in the 1950s and 1960s when the eastern bench filled with entry-level homes for Hill Air Force Base workers, and those brick ramblers, bungalows and ranch homes still make up much of the city, especially in south Roy. Development moved west from the 1980s to about 2005, adding split-levels, multi-story and Craftsman-inspired homes in north and west Roy, and a few new townhome projects are now filling remaining lots.
