Midway is a Swiss-settled village where some subdivisions require new homes to include Swiss-style architectural features, so chalet rooflines, balconies and timber trim are everywhere. Historic homes from the 1860s-1890s, including local pot-rock (travertine) masonry houses, sit near Main Street, while the population doubled between 2010 and 2020 with new construction in Dutch Fields, Snake Creek, River Meadows Ranch and resort communities around Zermatt. At about 5,600 feet with very dry winter air, we acclimate paper in the room for a day, choose adhesives that tolerate low humidity, and ask that the house be kept at normal temperature for a few days after installation. For seasonal homes we recommend keeping heat at a moderate setting rather than shutting it off.
Dry, thin mountain air speeds drying. We acclimate rolls in the room for 24 hours, adjust the paste's open time, and on very dry winter days run a humidifier while we hang so seams don't shrink back. Second homes are scheduled around your visits or your property manager.
