Midvale's housing splits into two eras. The historic core around Main Street and the neighborhoods east toward Fort Union are mostly early-1900s through 1970s homes, including small bungalows and post-war ramblers, while Bingham Junction, a roughly 446-acre redeveloped former smelter site along the Jordan River, has added thousands of apartments, condos and townhomes since the late 2000s, and Jordan Bluffs to the south is slated for about 3,500 more units. Midvale has the lowest owner-occupancy rate in the south valley (about 43 percent), so much of the stock is rental. Older homes may have plaster or lightly textured walls; the new multifamily buildings are usually smooth drywall.

Smooth drywall in these newer buildings takes paper very well, and removable or non-woven products make the wall easy to restore later.
Painted-over wallpaper is common in older Midvale homes and it can be removed, but it takes patience: we score the surface, soak with a remover solution and strip in layers, then skim and prime any damaged drywall or plaster. If the old paper is bonded tight and flat, we can sometimes skim over it instead.
