We fill and tape cracks with flexible compound, skim, sand and prime, and a non-woven wallpaper also helps bridge minor hairlines that might otherwise reappear in paint. New builds usually get a single coat of flat builder paint that is too porous for paste to bond well. We seal it with a wallcovering primer, check the light texture and skim if the paper you pick is thin or glossy, then install. Let the home settle through at least one season if you can, so small nail pops can be fixed first.
